News Flash: GDC Session: Social & Online Game Design 2010
What is it? "Social & Online Game Design 2010: A Year in Review," a panel hosted by Juan Gril (Joju Games) and Nick Fortugno (Playmatics).
What did I expect? Not this panel -- I was supposed to be at a League of Legends postmortem, but apparently missed a last minute room change notification. Once I sat down, though, I stayed because the speakers were playing Robot Unicorn Attack. How could I pass that up?
What did I learn? I learned that I need to go find and play these games right now:
Level up!
Ponzi
Robot Loves Kitty
Continuity
Super Mario Crossover (already played it, actually)
Robot Unicorn Attack (ditto)
Give Up Robot
Space Disposal
Loved
Greyscale
Rubble Trouble
The Visitor
Flyde
This is the only level (lol, great game name)
Kingdoms of Camelot
Backyard Monsters
Roly Poly Monsters (which looks like Angry Birds, but isn't)
Freeway Fury
Demons Took My Daughter
Steambirds
There were a few honorable mention games as well, but none of them stood out to me. Which is, I suppose, why they earned only Honorable Mentions from the panelists.
Pull quotes
Didn't catch any. This is why sitting at the back of the room next to Tim Rogers is a bad idea. Although I could quote any one of the times he said, "I'd play that. I'll play it right now."
